The Emblem of the Republic of Sudan
The emblem of the Republic of the Sudan is the Secretary Bird in a state of stillness with its wings stretched. The tip of the wings are joined by a strip on which the words "Victory is for Us" are inscribed. A similar band with "The Republic of the Sudan" written on it supports the base of the emblem.
This emblem was adopted during the former presidency of Jaffar Mohammed Nimeiri (1969-1985), replacing the previous emblem, which had rhinoceros as its symbol. The Secretary Bird is known for its might, ability lo fly at great heights and powerful sight. It can run for long distances.
Secretary Bird is found in Kordofan and Darfur as well as the Blue Nile area and the dry parts of the southern Sudan. The emblem symbolizes might, sacrifice and dignity - characteristics that represent the Sudanese people.
