1. UN Secretary General: Environmental problems that affected resources major reason of Darfur problem.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has affirmed in a lecture he gave at the friendship hall Khartoum Monday evening that one of the major reason of Durfur problem is the environmental problems that affected the resources of the area top of them water besides lack of sustainable development, saying that the UN is ready to help Sudan to realize development. He added in the lecture which was attended by senior official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Lam Akol and UN officials that the suffering of Darfur people is now on its way to end through the collective efforts of the Government, the United Nations and the African Union, referring to the hybrid operation. He pointed out that his visit to Sudan shows his concern with the Sudanese issue.
2. UN Secretary General condemns attack by armed movement on Wad Banda area
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has expressed pleasure over visiting Sudan, pointing out that he will discuss with the government's officials the progress made in implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and the efforts being exerted for realizing peace in Darfur. Ki-moon called in a press statement at Khartoum Airport on all parties for cessation of hostilities, condemning the attack launched by one of the armed movements on Wad Banda area recently and expressed condolences to the families of the victims of policemen. He expressed pleasure over visiting Sudan, pointing out that his talks with President Omer al-Bashir and other senior officials would discuss implementation of the commitments and realization of peace and security in Sudan, namely in Darfur besides progress in implementation of the CPA and financing development plans for the Sudanese people.
3. Speaker of Assembly to address Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States
Speaker of the National Assembly, Ahmed Ibrahim al-Tahir, is to address at the Friendship Hall, Khartoum, Tuesday the opening session of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUOICM). Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Assembly, Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Tahir, received at his office at the premises of the Assembly Monday the Secretary General of the Union. Ibrahim Abu Auf. The meeting reviewed the preparations for convocation of the meeting, which would review the agenda of the … session of the PUOICM, due to be held in Cairo next January. Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Assembly received the Iranian delegation, headed by Dr. Kazhim Galali, who handed him a written message from his Iranian counterpart, dealing with holstering parliamentary relations. The meeting further discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries and means of boosting them further. It is to be noted that the conference would be attended by delegations from Iran, Egypt, Turkey, Kuwait, Pakistan, Niger, Senegal, Algeria and Sudan.
