Sudan minister on visit to India

The Sudanese foreign minister Dr. Mustafa Osman Ismail arriyed here on Monday on a three-day visit to enhance ties between the two countries, particularly in the energy sector.

Dr. Ismail is expected to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and hold talks with external affairs minister K. Natwar Singh on the entire gainut of bilateral relations.

He will also interact with the business community here on ways to enhance trade cooperation.

A spokesperson of the Sudanese embassy said that the visit by Dr. Ismail is expected to boost relations between the two countries in all fields. "In his discussions with the Indian leadership, the minister will elaborate on ways and means of consolidating the bilateral relations, including in the hydrocarbon sector following the landmark strategic cooperation of the two countries in such a vital field," the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson recalled India's participation at the ministerial level in both the signing ceremony of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in Sudan as well as the recent donors conference in Oslo. "India's principled position regarding the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Sudan won it the admiration of the entire Sudanese people and beyond."

India and Sudan enjoy historical relations and are linked with fraternal ties premised on civilization bonds and affinity that have been furthered throughout history.
