1. H.E. President Omar Hassan Ahmed Albashir, President of the Republic of the Sudan has sent the following message to Dr. Manmohan Singh, the Honourable Prime Minister of India.

" Honourable Prime Minister.

It gives me great pleasure to extend to your Excellency on behalf of the Government and people of the Sudan and on my own behalf, our warmest felicitations and heartfelt congratulations on your assumption of the high office of Prime Minister of the sisterly Republic of India.

With the valuable confidence bestowed upon you by the people of your great country, I am confident that your able stewardship and seasoned statesmanship will ensure the realization of the lofty objectives and goals of the Indian people. We are also hopeful that the historical and time-tested relations that happily exist between our two countries and peoples will be strengthened and consolidated ".

2. On the other hand, H.E. Dr. Mustafa Osman Ismail, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sudan has sent the following message to H.E. Mr. Natwar Singh, Minister of External Affairs of India.

" Honourable Minister.

It is my singular honour and profound pleasure and privilege to express to you, Honourable Minister, our sincere and hearty congratulations on your appointment as Minister of External Affairs of the sisterly Republic of India, a tribute to your well-known qualities as a visionary and seasoned diplomat and statesman.

While wishing you success in all your endeavours I am sure that under your able leadership of the India's diplomacy, the historical relations between our two respective countries will be consolidated, and the cause of universal peace and stability will be promoted ".

3. Professor Ibrahim Ahmed Omar, Secretary General of the Sudanese National Congress has also sent a message of congratulations to Smt. Sonia Gandhi, the President of the Indian National Congress.
