UN Secretary General: Negotiations between Government and non-signatory movements of Abuja agreement have become near for realization of peace.
The UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, said that the negotiations between the government and the non signatory movement of Darfur peace agreement have become near to realizing peace in Darufr, announcing that he and Chairman of the African Union Commission, Prof. Alpha Oumar Konare, will forward the invitations for all movements to take part in the coming negotiations. At his meeting Wednesday with the government of North Darfur State in al-Fasher town, ban Ki-moon said that he will discuss with the President of the Republic Thursday in Khartoum their arrangements and vision for the coming negotiations between the government and the non signatory movements of Darfur peace agreement. The UN Secretary General Appreciated his visit to Darfur and his meeting with the government of North Dsrfur State,explaining his visit was aimed to get acquainted with dimension of Darfur issue on the ground, e3specially after the Security Council's resolution .He said that implementation of the resolution and its success necessitates exertion of big efforts. He affirmed the importance of the cooperation by all parties, especially the wali (governor) of North Darfur and the local community leaders in Darfur. Ban Ki-moon voiced his appreciation of the efforts of North Darfur State's government and its cooperation with the international organizations which are operation in the state, calling for the continunity of this cooperation. He also praised role which is being played by the UN and the African Union representatives, inducation that implementation of the hybrid operation requires cooperation between all parties. He expressed his appreciation over the efforts which were carried out by the envoys of the United Nations and the African Union for success of the recent talks in Arusha that included the non signatory parties of Darfur peace agreement. Ban Ki-moon has affirmed his full commitment to the implementation of the hybrid operation toward reaching comprehensive peace in Darfur, stressing importance of the views of the local leaders and displaced people for achieving durable peace. The UN Secretary General said that he listened with great concern to the report of the Wali (governor) on the general situation in the state, and saw part of the convoys of voluntarily returning people, a matter that reflected the level of the stability in North Darfur State. He called for the continuity of efforts for expansion of stability, declaring the readiness of the international community to extend financial support for Darfur. The Wali (governor) of North Darfur State, Osman Mohammed Yousif Kibir, welcomed at the outset of the meeting the visit of the UN Secretary General, stressing the commitment of his government to continue efforts and cooperation with all parties towards reaching the aspired goal of stability. He lauded the role which is being played by the UN envoy for Darfur, Jan Eliasson.
Ki-moon arrives in Al-Fashir and affirms keenness on political solution for Darfur Issue.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon arrived Wednesday in Al-Fashir town, capital of the North Darfur State, coming from Juba. Wali (Governor) of the state, Osman Mohamed Yousuf Kibir, a number of his government members, leaderships of the native administration and the organizations of civil society as well as the citizens of the state received the UN Secretary General. Following the receiving ceremony, Ki-moon headed to the headquarters of the African Union Mission in Al-Fashir where he held a meeting with the commander of the mission the presence of the state wali. In statement to SUNA at the end of the meeting, the UN Spokesperson, Radhia Ashore said that the visit of the Secretary General to Sudan came at invitation extended to him by the Government of Sudan, pointing out that Ki-moon discussed with the First Vice President, Salva Kiir Mayardit, in Juba Tuesday the role of SPLM in supporting the peace process in Darfur. Ashore affirmed keenness of the Secretary General on the importance of providing the necessary support for solving Darfur issue through the political work, pointing out that the meeting between President Al-Bashir and Ki-moon on Thursday will discuss this matter and will also tackle the hybrid operation and means of its success. She said the UN Secretary General would assure during the meeting importance of continuation of humanitarian support to help success of the operation in its humanitarian and political aspects in order to shif to the state of development.
Ban Ki-moon visits Al- Salam Displaced People Camp Near Al-Fasher
The United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, Wednesday paid a visit to Al-Salam displaced people camp, north of Al-Fasher town, the capital of North Darfur, which is one of three camps surrounding the town. Representative of the displaced people at the camp has welcomed the UN Secretary General's visit to the camp, and affirmed their readiness to return voluntarily to their home areas and villages immediately. He expressed their need for assistance for their return and provision of security and development at their home areas.
Briefing UN Secretary General, Governor of North Darfur State affirms improvement of situations, readiness to receive hybrid operation.
Wali (Governor) of North Darfur State, Osman Mohamed Yousif Kibir, highlighted the great achievements brought about by Abuja Peace Agreement, top of which is the stability of situations in Darfur region. This came during his briefing Wednesday to the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, during his meeting with the Government of North Darfur State. Kibir attributed the tangible improvement in the humanitarian situations to the efforts exerted by the Government at the federal and state levels in collaborations with the International organizations working in the Sudan. In this regard, Kibir referred to the voluntary return convoys of the internally displaced persons from the camps to their home villages and areas, as a direct result to the improvement of situation in Darfur. The Governor further welcomed the Resolution No....... issued by the Security Council, affirming commitment of his Government to implement it completely with all due transparency. As for the IDPs inside the camps, the Governor affirmed that there are no cases of malnutrition or epidemics among them. The Governor further revealed that some ...... of the IDPs have returned to their home areas in the previous weeks, saying that this necessitates cooperation of all parties to make the voluntary return programme success. Unfortunately, some organizations do not encourage them to return to their home areas, said the Governor, calling on the UN Secretary General to extend the necessary assistance for them. As for the coming talks between the Government and the non-signatories of Abuja peace agreement, the Governor underlined the importance of embarking on talks with these movements towards the lasting peace and stability in Darfur. We are looking forward for your support as friends to the people of Darfar in the dialogue. We want the UN to be part of the solution of the issue of Darfur, said the Governor. The Governor expressed readiness of North Darfur State to receive the hybrid operation in a similar way as it has received the missions of the African Union and the United Nations as well as the NGOs to reach the aspired goal of stability and peace in Darfur.

The African Union says the Darfur renewed negotiations take place next October in Libya.
The African Union has affirmed the convening of the renewed peace negotiations for Darfur on October ....in Libya, and that this was in accordance with the June.... Roadmap for the Darfur political process, saying the Chairperson of the AU Commission and the Secretary General of the UN have agreed to that date on the advice of the AU and UN special Envoys for Darfur. A statement by African Union said the negotiations will take place in Libya, under the leadership of the AU and UN Special Envoys in partnership with the countries of the region and with the support of the wider international community. It said the chairperson of the AU Commission has urged all Parties to demonstrate their serious commitment to achieve a political solution to the Darfur crisis, including through cooperating with the efforts to create a secure environment in Darfur conducive to the negotiations and immediately ceasing all hostile actions. The statement said the Chairperson has expressed his hope that the renewed negotiations will move speedily to address the concerns of the people of Darfur, including in particular, the concerns expresse3d by the Internally Displaced Persons, the Refugees, Women and Youth Groups, Civil Society and tribal leaders. The press release said the AU Chairperson has called for an immediate end to all violence and insecurity in Darfur, and that he strongly encouraged the Parties with the support of the Envoys, to agree as a matter of the highest priority, on a strengthened ceasefire supported by AMIS and by the Hybrid Operations, in order to allow for an improvement in the humanitarian situation and enhance the prospects for development and recovery in Darfur.
