President lifts press censorship



The Sudanese President H.E. Omer Hassan Ahmed El-Bashir at his first meeting with leaders of both pro-government and opposition political parties as part of the government efforts to unify the country on Saturday 09.08.2003 has issued a decree no: 250, lifting altogether any censorship of the press adding that everyone can express himself in the newspapers and even on the government television. The newspapers now will be under the responsibility of the National press Council. He has also issued on the same day another decree no: 251 establishing that there will no longer be any ban on travels as any person is entitled to freely travel except bans through court orders.

The Presidential decrees were commended nationwide and have been appreciated by many human rights organizations.
